Autoimmune Diseases

Your immune system is your army...your defense against viruses, bacteria...anything your immune system thinks is an invader.

"Autoimmune" means that your immune system is attacking YOU...it thinks YOU are an invader.

There are hundreds of different kinds of autoimmune conditions. And they get different names based primarily on what tissue is being attacked...or the name of the person who discovered it.

Here are a few examples of autoimmune diseases:

✓ Hashimoto's Thyroiditis

The #1 cause of hypothyroid/low thyroid in America. The immune system attacks the inside of the thyroid gland and destroys your ability to make enough thyroid hormones

✓ Rheumatoid Arthritis

The immune system attacks your cartilage, which causes pain, fatigue and deformity of the joints

✓ Multiple Sclerosis

The immune system attacks and destroys your myelin. Myelin wraps around certain nerve cells in your central nervous system. Myelin acts like insulation around an electrical wire. So, when it gets chewed up, the nerve cells can't conduct and communicate signals normally

Autoimmune diseases have different names (based on what tissue is being attacked...but--and this is extremely important---

they are VERY similar in terms of their biochemistry and what you can do to successfully treat them.

Unfortunately, the traditional medical model is very REACTIVE, not proactive. The vast overwhelming majority of medical doctors follow a "wait and see" approach when it comes to autoimmune diseases.

Basically, if you aren't already having significant, obvious, overt tissue damage this is what you get told:

"Well, let's wait a year and see if gets worse. If it does, then we'll treat you."

Why is this model pretty much the ONLY way medical doctors deal with autoimmune diseases?

Two reasons:

#1 - The only tools they have in their toolbox are medications (some HEAVY DUTY medications).

#2 - Insurance companies simply won't pay for treatment unless certain boxes on a checklist are checked.

Fortunately, there's a ton of modern scientific research we can use to be proactive with the correct testing and treatment. We do NOT have to wait until you have permanent damage before we can help get control of your immune system.
