Alzheimer’s Disease

Alzheimer's Disease is a neurodegenerative condition. This means that brain cells literally die, never to return.

The main areas of the brain affected by this devastating process are areas responsible for memory--the hippocampus.

Over time, victims of Alzheimer's suffer "progressive amnestic impairment"...a very technical way of saying they suffer more and more severe memory problems. Here are two examples:

Problems with semantic memory:

This affects the Alzheimer's victim's fluency when speaking, or not being able to name objects

Problems with short term memory:

Forgetting the question they just asked, or forgetting where they put their glasses.

Sadly, as Alzheimer's eats away at the hippocampus it becomes impossible for the person to form new memories.

As time passes and Alzheimer's worsens--and more brain cells die-- other important brain functions can be impaired, or lost altogether.

The end result is a person who is confused, disoriented...has trouble thinking...and difficulty doing normal everyday tasks.

Dr. Clark has experience treating people with both Early Alzheimer's (sometimes called Mild Cognitive Impairment) as well as "late" Alzheimer's.  He's also worked with Primary Progressive Aphasia, a close cousin of Alzheimer's.

Using his NeuroMetabolic treatment approach, Dr. Clark's patient's have seen huge improvements in:

  • Short term memory
  • Orientation to date, time and place
  • Ability to talk fluently and find words easily
  • Ability to do daily tasks without supervision (washing dishes, yard work, errands)
